Glaciers in the Argentine Patagonia
Eternal witnesses of time, the glaciers display their grandness in the Argentine Patagonia making visitors from all over the world tremble. In imposing quietness comes a silence that creates the respect of a sanctuary. They express their energy through awesome “breaks” that capture the attention of the whole world as massive sections of glacier collapse.

Guided by experts and equipped with crampons, tourists can walk on the icy surface of the glacier and get to know in-person this giant of the Argentine Patagonia

In the Los Glaciares National Park, 80 kilometers from El Calafate, is the Perito Moreno Glacier. This monster of ice offers through its breaks one of the most extraordinary natural sights you can enjoy in the area. Different vessels sail the Argentino Lake, the largest lake of the country.

Through these trips you can navigate the Canal de los Témpanos [ the channel of the ice floes ] and meet the imposing glacier. Its 257 square kilometer surface and 30 kilometer length make it an unavoidable attraction for thousands of tourists from all over the world. Inside the same National Park and north of the province of Santa Cruz, hundreds of glaciers constitute a majestic landscape that refers us to the very origins of the Earth. These huge white mantles are the most ancient testimony of the glacial formations that took place millions of years ago. Also close to El Calafate, the immense walls of the Upsala glacier, together with the Viedma glacier, the largest of the National Park, provide an overwhelming sight.

To contemplate the different faces of giant glaciers like the Onelli, the Agassiz, and the Bolado, or the front face of the 135-meter tall Spegazzini glacier are unique experiences that the Argentine Patagonia affords. In the vicinity of the challenging Mount Fitz Roy is the hamlet of El Chaltén, meeting point of climbers and trekking lovers from all over the world. From there you take off to the Viedma Glacier, a journey that includes a stretch by minibus and a stretch by vessel, or to the Torre glacier through an extensive trekking through the mountain. Both glaciers invite to the prized trek on their surface and climbing their enormous walls

At the southern end of the region, in Tierra del Fuego, the Martial Glacier offers various activities for those who love adventure on an infinite whiteness. Also departing from El Chalten, those who love extreme crossings will have the chance to challenge their limits in expeditions through the enigmatic ice sheet. Under cover of the vastness of the Patagonian skies, they will live through an unforgettable experience amid endless and rare surrounds. The Argentine Patagonia is within reach of those who dare to experience the emotion of walking through the huge ice sheet at the end of the world.
