The Argentine Patagonia is an immense territory filled with mystery that pulls visitors into its seductive embrace. It will captivate anyone who visits these lands and is embraced by the immensity of its horizon, surrendering to sublime majesty of nature.
Enigmatic as few other regions in the world, Patagonia presents its first challenge when we try to decipher the origin of its name. There are many different versions that all point to the explorer Magellan as the initial creator of the name. One of the stories refers to the observation of the seafarer of large footsteps [Pata= feet] made by the Tehuelches, an indigenous people of the region, who were characterized by their large build and remarkable height. Another tale says that Magellan used the word “Patagón” making reference to a literary monster, a character from a well-known medieval novel.
Patagonia includes the provinces of La Pampa, Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego and has a surface of 930,731 square kilometers with a total population of only 2,037,545. Each part of the Argentine Patagonia offers a wide range of possibilities for leisure, entertainment, and adventure in a setting where the lush landscape plays the leading role.
La Pampa: the extent of its land and the long horseback rides until the sun sets are an unmistakable sign of the endless Pampean plains, home of traditional farms where you can enjoy asados [Argentine barbecues], countryside activities, and typical local music.
Neuquén: birthplace of prehistoric dinosaurs, combines the wildest Patagonian steppe with the splendor of its lakes and valleys, resplendent with vegetation. Río Negro: its warm and transparent sea, valleys, sporting events, and steppe coexist side by side with mystic landscape, ancient rock paintings, and rich native fauna. Chubut : where the ocean displays its full splendor and whales and dolphins set up an enchanting show along with penguins and sea lions. Santa Cruz: a variety of virgin and majestic natural settings, watched over by hundreds of glaciers that emerge in the vastness of the landscape. Tierra del Fuego: the southernmost point of America, a land of magic and fantasy where you can experience the longest winter nights as well as the brightest and lengthiest summer days.
The entire Argentine Patagonia, its people, its landscapes and its strong ancestral culture invites you to discover the magic at distant southern extreme of the world.
